Medical review helps ensure that patient education is accurate, understandable, appropriately qualified, and consistent with the care currently offered by Fichte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare.
Content That Requires Clinical Review
Clinical review is required for pages about symptoms, diagnoses, medications, medical devices, surgery, candidacy, risks, recovery, outcomes, treatment comparisons, urgent warning signs, and other information that could affect a patient’s health decision.
Reviewer Qualifications
The reviewer must have training and a current professional role appropriate to the topic. Ophthalmic surgery and physician-level diagnosis content is reviewed by an ophthalmologist. Optometry, contact lens, routine examination, and other topics may be reviewed by an optometrist when appropriate. Safety-sensitive content may be escalated to the physician responsible for that service.
Review Requirements
- Confirm that treatment availability and provider assignments are current.
- Check factual claims, qualifications, numbers, and dates against approved evidence.
- Review benefits, limitations, alternatives, candidacy, recovery, and risk language for balance.
- Remove guarantees, unsupported superlatives, and absolute statements.
- Confirm that urgent symptoms and emergency guidance are clear when relevant.
- Verify that cited references directly support consequential claims.
Review Frequency
Core treatment and condition pages are reviewed at least annually. An earlier review is triggered by changes in FDA labeling, device status, treatment availability, clinical practice, physician roster, regulations, or credible safety information.
Reviewer Display
After review is complete, the page displays the reviewer’s name and credentials, a link to the reviewer’s biography, and the last-reviewed date. A reviewer is not added to visible content or structured data until the assignment and review are confirmed.
Source Hierarchy
Reviewers prioritize FDA materials and device labeling, National Eye Institute resources, American Academy of Ophthalmology patient education, recognized professional guidance, and peer-reviewed research. Manufacturer materials may describe a product but should not be the only support for a safety, comparative, or outcome claim.
Scope and Limitations
Medical review of website content does not establish a patient-physician relationship and does not replace an individual examination. Patients should contact the practice or seek urgent care when symptoms require prompt evaluation.
